Wait, some of you hit Ctrl with the tip of your pinky? | PC Gamer - snowfamere

Hold, some of you hit Ctrl with the steer of your little finger?

When Wes revealed that he was WASDing wrong few long time ago—with his pinkie on A—I joined in and laughed. Ha ha hour angle, feel at this guy, putting his pinky on the wrong cay! Advantageously, let Pine Tree State tell you, it doesn't feel so fortunate when your pinky is the unity organism mocked.

Yesterday, Microcomputer Gamer contributor Kyle Campbell confessed that, when using WASD, he hits Ctrl aside adjusting his hand down forward happening the keyboard and pressing down with the top of his palm. I was vexed by the discussion I was seeing in our work chat. Kyle's method is unusual, but it didn't seem that weird to me, honorable overdramatic. What, are you supposed to curl your whole little finger back and use the tip?

Manifestly, yes, almost of my coworkers Robert Curl their pinkie off of Dislodge to hit Ctrl with the tip. What? That's ill at ease and inefficient, unless perhaps you are an accomplished classical guitar player. I genuinely didn't recognise that anyone did that until yesterday. I propose that Kyle and I are the normal ones (more than me than Kyle though), and IT's the pinkie curlers who are Weird.

I get into't use Kyle's dramatic composition palm method, but the conception is somewhat suchlike. With my pinky gently arched, I rest the tip along Shift. When I need to press Ctrl, I extend my pinky sol that the underside of the knuckle is touching Ctrl, and then depress. If I penury to, I can press Ctrl and Wobble simultaneously, or I can quickly switch from Shift to Ctrl and back by extending and unextending my pinky, like it's doing light aerobics.

Why Kyle brings the top of his handle into the picture, I can't say. That's needless. But I besides find information technology very strange to curl one's pinkie like a shrimp tail. My pinky happily hangs out on Ctrl, Duty period, and Caps Interlace (my screenshot key) and I hardly have to bend it to hit all ternion. IT is an unstressed pinky. It is sipping iced tea spell your pinkies are flexing and straining, showing cancelled like fools.

(Get the record show that Morgan responded to this video with: "🤮.")

Sir Henry Morgan claims that he requires the precision of his pinky tip; he fears inadvertent double-presses. Morgan and I both bind Ctrl to crouch, though, so I don't know what he's worried all but. If I incidentally entreat crouch doubly, I will simply appear to be making a rude gesture. And wherefore would I be many possible to doubling press anyway? IT seems to Maine that moving the tip of the pinky from Shift key to Ctrl is a riskier gesture; it causes my whole hand to move backmost a little.

I didn't plan this response. It was genuinely bothering me finally night, and then I got up early to say this: Kyle, you're not that uncanny. OK, maybe you'Ra a little weird. But the little finger curly method is also weird.

Clearly, I did non interrogate unusual people's WASD methods plenty over the years. There was ne'er a good reason to assume we all did information technology the aforesaid: WASD wasn't standard when I started playing shooters. We put-upon the arrow keys to move. (They're arrows. It seemed to make a lot much sense at the time.) When I started exploitation WASD—in Temblor, belik—thither were no instructions. I guess IT retributory felt natural to me to bend and relax my pinky to hit Ctrl.

Well, we all do things other than. A Kyle recalls, there's been a lot of bullshitting o'er the years about the "right" way to play PC games, and of course there's no "right" way. You can use your palm to rack up Ctrl, or curl your pinky if you want to.

You'Re weird if you do, though, and I'm the normal one.
